Ultraviolet and Near Infrared Photography Single - Airplane flying over pine treessteemCreated with Sketch.

in #colorchallenge6 years ago (edited)

Ive noticed airplanes stand out in the sky when using Infrared and Ultraviolet photography. Appears to be some small passenger plane, looks pretty small to me. Their reflective surface shows up as white light usually which is very contrasting compared to the cobalt #skyblue

This blue is caused by Ultraviolet light being scattered through the atmosphere. Unlike with Infrared Photography where the sky does not scatter Infrared very well.

You can see the wood effect from the pine tree with its reflective white leaves bouncing infrared radiation off them to stop the plant from drying out.

I plan on posting more aircraft pictures, the jet contrails show up real well in ultraviolet and have a few cool pictures in Infrared as well.

Some of these photos were unexpected, just happened to have an airplane flying over when I took the photo. Sometimes I just notice them when reviewing the photos back at my computer at home.

I take pictures with a special camera. Its a Mirrorless DSLR that has been modified by LifePixel to see light in other wavelengths. This allows my camera to capture light in the Infrared [IR] around 1300 NM wavelength, through the visual spectrum and into the Ultraviolet A and B wavelengths roughly into the 300 NM wavelength.

I carry many filters on me to make the photos you see in my blog, these filters screw on my lens and help me isolate certain wavelengths for certain scenes. These filters can be IR/UV cut filters to help me get a natural photo taking out the IR and UV light. Or I may use a Infrared pass-through filter capture just Infrared light. I can do the came with Ultraviolet light as well, though I need some better filters which they can cost a few hundred dollars for true Ultraviolet pass-through filters. So for right now I have B+W 403 filters that still allow some infrared light in, due to their cheaper material.
