Oranges

I don't really have to explain what oranges are. They are arguably the most popular fruit in the world. It is believed that oranges originated in southern China and were first cultivated around 2500 BC. Oranges were a big part of my childhood. I grew up playing soccer. We always kept orange slices in a cooler for immediately after the game. Not only were they refreshing, but the vitamins and sugar helped our bodies start the recovery process.

Here are a few facts I learned while writing this:

• The world's leading producers of oranges are(from highest to lowest)

  4. India
  5. Mexico
• The white part of the orange's rind has nearly as much vitamin C as the flesh of the orange.
• Orange peels have been used by gardeners as a repellent for slugs.

Whenever I can, I buy organic oranges because I like to put a little zest in my green tea. Orange is a great flavor to add to green tea. Plus, this way, I reap the many health benefits of the orange peel's oil.
