Colorchallenge - Wednesday yellow - Helianthus annuus
This is my entry for the #colorchallenge Yellow Wednesday
Happiness comes in different forms. To me the sunflower (latin name: Helianthus annuus) embodies happiness being as bright as the sun. It is also the only flower with the word flower in its name. Summer is the peak season for sunflowers but you might see this annual plant until autumn. There are many crossbreeds however. Sunflowers are sturdy plants which grow very easily as long as the soil is not water-logged.
Simply beautiful sunflower - with a bee
Sunflowers are not only known for their beauty but also for its edible oil and seeds. A single sunflower head can have up to 2000 seeds and a plant can grow quite tall. The record being over 25 feet or 7 meters. As you can see from this foto - the pollinator -bee - is undisturbed by my proximity. Another bee joined in for nectar drinking - totally ignoring me.
The sunflower totally represents the mysterious sun and they do have some mystery of their own. Did you know that the young flower heads will turn to the sun? However, the mature flower heads remain in a fixed position. It is very special to see the heads turning.
