Colorchallenge: Monday Red
Moody Monday, Folks!
This is a firecracker plant or fountainbush (Russelia equisetiformis). I sometimes refer to it as Cousin It (Addams Family) because it gets quite unruly as you can see in one of the pictures below. I trim the thin, fibrous branches way back since it grows fast. Each branch node divides into many branches and sometimes it roots from the nodes touching the ground. I often see the house finches on the bush. They pinch the flowers with their beaks till the nectar oozes out. Near the bottom branches I often find anole lizards seeking refuge or hunting for bugs.
