Thursday Color Challenge: Green - Butterfly Kiss
Butterfly Kiss
This painting is about how the presence of a younger person can breathe life in to the mind of an older person just by paying attention to them, and helping to give them a new purpose. The butterfly symbolizes the transformative nature that youth can have upon the elderly. I am interviewing now to work for a company that does in-home non-medical visits with seniors, who are my favorite group of people, for their history and their slowed down point of view.
How The Painting Was Made
I did this drawing, first...inspired by seeing an elderly gentleman with his nurse outside the Senior Center.
I Decided To Go 3D
Next, I mounted the drawing on mdf, and then made a paper-mache frame around it
I began to build with the paper-mache and twist it and form it into vines and flowers to exemplify the home of the butterfly - the transformative force
more vines and more flowers
and more...
Painting The Picture In Color
when that was dry, I painted the vines veridian green acrylic
then I added a layer of yellow acrylic
Details Done In Oil Paint
I painted the butterfly-girl and the man's face in oil
and the flowers
also in oil

Wow, I really liked seeing your process! The picture has that medieval church art kind of vibe to me. Not because of the subject matter, but just how you overlayed limbs and went stylistic on her pulling on his nose. :) Tres cool, I like it!
hey thanks for noticing! Interesting "medieval church art"... My art is intuitive in that I do automatic drawing - so "it came out that way"... and I am not surprised...
I love this painting. The colors are beautiful and the subject makes my heart sing. I love seniors too and would be happy working with them. I hope you get the job. Fingers crossed.
