Color Challenge: Monday Red - Independence!

Tomorrow is the 4th of July, the celebration of The United States of America's Declaration of Independence. It was not the start of the American Revolutionary War, nor was it the end. The war was brewing for a decade before the events of 1775 took place and it took until 1784 for the war to be officially over. Declaring your independence is not an easy thing.

Even when the war finally broke out, there was almost an even split between those still loyal to the crown and those who wanted an independence from Great Britain. When the war was over, the colonies had their independence and a lose bond was created to keep the colonies together called the Articles of Confederation, which came into force on March 1, 1781. But, it seemed that that was not enough to get agreement among the colonies. The Constitutional Convention was held and after much debate between the Federalist and the anti-Federalist the Constitution was ratified on June 21, 1788. Four years after the war was officially over, there was an agreed upon government. The length of one term for a President.

Time is an interesting thing. A lot of things can happen in a short period of time and a lot of nothing can happen in a long period of time.

The photo for today is the American flag I fly on my house, which I have only been in for a few years. While the kids have changed so much in these couple of years, it seems like all the tasks I want to do around the house, seems to be stagnate.

Cool post, I love the colorchallenges. What in your opinion is the most important aspect of the 4th of july?

Understanding what a huge impact the colonies declaration meant.

The Magna Carta started everything, but the American Revolutionary War basically (for better or for worse) ended dynasties around the world. England, at the time, was the most powerful nation in the world. After the American Revolution, they started losing colonies and eventually their status. France lost their dynasty. In just a hundred years after the colonies won their independence, most monarchs were being dethroned or had lost true control of their kingdoms.

The declaration started a shift from blood rule and ownership, to the average person being able to own the land they worked. Most people don't know, but the preamble

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

was originally: Life, Liberty and Property. But, due to the slave issue, they changed the last part. The declaration of having a right to own property was a huge step towards freedom from serfdom.
