This is the most regrettable college major in America.

More than half (54.3%) of people who majored in English say they are not satisfied with that choice of major, according to a survey conducted by career training site Trade-Schools.net — making it the most regretted college major in America, at least in this survey. And many English majors say as much.

The English major is closely followed by a fine arts major (51.6%) and a political science major (38.2%) as the most regretted.

Ah English majors got suckered. Maybe if you teach English in China you'd be making some bank but I don't know any job that specifically requires am English major. I mean if you can speak and read English you can pretty much do everything an English teacher can do. Same goes for Fine Arts and Political Science both those are only good for government jobs and no use in the private sector.

Interestingly enough the most satisfied majors were Accounting and Computer Science which makes sense because these are hard industries to work in where a certified accountant or certified software developer is hard to come by and many business once they employ one pay them very well to keep them around for a long time.

If we had free market loans no one would be lending to English or Fine Arts majors because most businesses outside of government don't need these majors but every decent size companies needs an accountant or an IT guy so all the loan money would be going to the higher skilled majors that still pay very well.
