in #coins7 years ago (edited)

Final installment in this series of post.

I have very few of each of these denomination.

I'm too young to remember the switch from paper $1 bills to the coins. These coins are commonly known as loonies in English Canada due to the loon featured on the front

2004 Olympic Lucky Loonie

The legend goes that someone in charge of the ice at the arena where the Olympic hockey tournament was held in Salt Lake City burried a coin under the ice and that year both the Canadian men and women's team won the gold.

In 2009 there was a Montréal Canadiens Centennial coin issued only in Québec and I need to get my hands on it.

I do remember when those came out. Commonly known as "toonies" since they are worth 2 loonies. I also remember them having some issues with the medallion in the middle coming out of the outer ring but the banks would replace them for a new one. Fun story: if you took one part to one bank they'd give you a new coin then take the other part to a different bank for a second coin. We may have done that a couple of times to get some extra money.

This is the entirety of my coin collection. I am working on acquiring coin issued after 2008 when my dad passed and the collecting stopped.
