Some might be thought the bitter taste that they having is the good one but actually is not. #1. Over Brewing

Often time we over brewing and without knowing actually the coffee bean already having the bitter taste and burnt taste. For example, making a french press coffee which only required 4 minutes but steep for too long for 6-7 minutes so your coffee already having too much bitter flavour and burnt taste.

How to Fix

To prevent over brewing, you need to know what type of coffee you want to brew and how much time needed to get the idea taste. So for a beginner, you might need a timer and look for information online


#2. Coffee in Too Hot Water

When the water is too hot it will make the coffee bitter. The reason is that too hot water will overcook your coffee beans and lead to release bitterness from your coffee beans.

How to Fix

The ideal temperature to brew your coffee will be between 90-95 Celsius degree. If you are hardcore coffee lover use a thermometer and measure the temperature of your hot water. Otherwise, let it sit for 30-45 seconds before pour into your coffee.


#3. You Are Over Adding Coffee To Your Water

When you are adding too much coffee relative to the amount of the water it will cause the coffee too strong and lead to bitter.

How to Fix

Stick to the coffee recipe. For example, you want to make a french press coffee so you need to know your french press size and adding the correct tablespoon of coffee. If you do not know how many tablespoons of your french press size, you can always find information online or ask a local coffee expert. Again, so that you get the idea taste for your coffee.


#4. Your Coffee Grinds Size is Too Fine

If you brew your own coffee at home, you need to ensure you are not grounding your coffee too finely as you can over extract and expose the coffee in the process which results in bitterness in your coffee.

The different method of brewing coffee using different grind size. Hence, you need to know what type of brewing method you want and experiment it and taste the coffee. However, finding the correct coffee grind size will always improve overall taste and make you more satisfied with your coffee. That's the whole point of brewing coffee your own, right?


#5. Keep Your Brewing Gears Clean

The leftover of the last brew is not fresh and often it will add bitterness which will impact overall taste when you brewing fresh coffee.

How to Fix

Always clean your brewing gears after finished brewing your coffee if possible otherwise clean it once a week. There are plenty of ways to clean your coffee grinder and you may find it online according to your coffee grinder model.
