BEGINNER CODING TIPS | Part Two | Formatting Words (7 Styles)
Hi friends!
For those of you who have already ready my previous post: beginner coding tips part 1 then jump down to the "let's get learning" section past this quick overview, as it is only to bring new reader's up to speed!
A quick insight for those of you just tuning in!:
If the topic of this post is not obvious to you already, then get up from your device, go put the kettle on, pop outside for some fresh air, grab yourself a GREEN TEA (ok ok, have your coffee!) and come back to reread the title with a rejuvenated mind ;)
Joking aside, on my first day here (all of three days ago) I met a Steemit user called @joeyarnoldvn who commented on one of my previous introduction posts. I mentioned how I wanted to learn coding and how I had forgotten a lot of the very basics from years ago during I.T. classes. He planted a superb seed (bit of a tongue twister that!) to learn a bit of coding each day so that it is not too overwhelming.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I truly believe that we SHOULD all be making an effort to learn and understand coding. The future of technology is so exciting, so we must embrace it rather than shy away from it!
I am also a strong believer that knowledge should be shared and so I am sure there are steemit users who are at the same 'coding level' as myself. Therefore, these posts have been primarily designed for you :D
So, every day I will learn a new coding technique and share what I have learned with you!
Your posts will look soooo much better if you learn how to use code to format them.
I appreciate that many people understand coding (so if this applies to you, then thanks for stopping by and feel free to correct me in the comments below, or share some additional advice! :D)!
Let's get learning!
In part ONE we learned how to make text bold.
In part TWO I realised that formatting the style of text generally follows the same technique as we learned before. The only difference is the 'code' placed between the arrows which will depend on what you are trying to achieve.
Therefore I didn't want to waste a load of posts going through every style possible for the sake of posting! I want to provide useful live information and help you learn at the same speed as I am learning -it's more fun learning together right?
So I will recap on how to insert the coding around the text, from part 1, in a moment.
First, let's have a look at a few of the possible styles you can use to format your text:
Text styles available:
< b > Defines bold text EXAMPLE
< em > Defines emphasized text EXAMPLE
< i> Defines italic text: EXAMPLE
< strong > Defines important text: EXAMPLE
< sub > Defines subscripted text: EXAMPLE
< sup > Defines superscripted text: EXAMPLE
< del > Defines deleted text: EXAMPLE
Recap on how to insert the code:
If you would like to format a word or group of words, all you need to do is make sure you follow these guidelines;
< ___> WORD/S TO BE STYLED </ ___>
The under-scroll "___" is where you will place the code that coincides with the style that you want to apply to your word/s.
It really is that easy!
Once you know the styling codes off by heart, then typing in a coded language so that you can 'style as you go' becomes easier which will help you streamline your content creation.
Some of you may have noticed, like I did, that a couple of the styling codes look identical! For example: bold and strong; italics and emphasised.
However, there is a point to having similar looking but different coded styles - I will go over this in a whole new post!
For now, practice using these style codes within your writing to help bring your posts to life. Styles help to break up a text and make certain words or phrases stand out to the reader.
That's all for now!
So what are you waiting for? Have a go at styling your text and remember to tag me in your posts -I would love to see!
