Steemit Language Lovers, Unite! Steemit 的語言熱愛者團結一致吧!

Currently there are 249 trending tags, but there are no specific language learning tags (marked with curly brackets), even for very popular languages such as French or Chinese.

There are a few ambiguous tags such as ENGLISH, JAPANESE and SPANISH (CERVANTES and DEUTSCH might also fit), but they don't necessarily refer to language learning. We Steemians need to create some sort of community for language learning.

Sort:

Anyone can make a new tag. We just need to use it enough on articles that are popular enough that it hits the trending page. For example, we could use learning-"language" as a tag... I think I'll start doing that from now on.

Have you ever used a site like lang-8.com? How cool would it be to have a steem backed site that supported an interface similar to lang-8, except anyone could pay anyone via voting or using steem/sbd...

Maybe if we build something like that, (is anyone working on this sort of thing?) then go to a popular discord forum for users, we could get something started.

Thoughts?

Allowing anyone to make a new tag can lead to chaos. #language alone is ambiguous (philosophical observations?, writing suggestions?, computer programming languages? ...)

I suggest we use a short, unambiguous prefix: #learn+{name of language}. You have inspired me to make a post about this topic:

That's essentially what I suggested. You sure about that link? It's to here...

Perhaps the tag should be learn-{two-letter language abbreviation}? For example, #learn-zh #learn-es, etc? It could mimic the existing top level language tags that exist where people are (supposed to?) post in that language. Then the original top-level tag could be used to indicate the source language. For example, someone that speaks chinese, but is learning japanese might tag their post with #cn #learn-jp

Thanks for pointing out the link error: corrected!

The two-letter abbreviations appeal to my nerdy side, but we should be realistic. Steemit is developing into a worldwide community, and it is inevitable that many Steemians will not be familiar with the arcane details of ccTLDs (or even the existence of this unpronounceable abbreviation), or be misled into thinking that they are language codes.

Misleading ccTLDs (country code Top-Level Domains)

zh = China (not Chinese)
.il = Israel (.he, not currently used, is not Hebrew)
.ca = Canada (not Cambodian: use .kh instead)
.ar = Argentina (not Arabic)

Early adopters tend to be people with computer skills (HTML coding, knowledge of programming, network basics, domain names etc.). Many new Steemians have a shaky command of English. Thus, even a simple, basic tag such as #introduceyourself has given rise to #introducemyself, #introduction, #introductions and #introduce.

It seems best to keep things simple and easily guessable. #learn + [common English name of language] is probably the best choice.

Resteemed your article. This article was resteemed because you are part of the New Steemians project. You can learn more about it here: https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@gaman/new-steemians-project-launch

Thank you for this support! I've been on Steemit since September, but progress has been very slow
