Prep for Tough Times-1 (No-Cook Veggie Soup) # Sobrevivencia-1, preparar una sopa sin cocinar #

Versión en español a continuación Hiking with my GF in the mountains near Changhua (彰化 Central Taiwan Zhānghuà / Janghuah) about a dozen years ago, we encountered a slight problem. I had made a reservation for a small cabin so that we could take a rest in the evening, but on arriving in the late afternoon, we realized that there were no stores nearby where we could buy something to eat. My GF assumed we would have to go without dinner, but I love to improvise solutions.

Luckily for us, I found an itinerant fruit & vegetable dealer who sold us some leafy greens (and fruit) which I was able to make into tasty soup without using a stove.

CC0--pxhere.com This tricycle-mounted cart is similar to the ones one finds in the countryside. For obvious reasons, the ones in the mountains are motorized.

Here is how I prepared our simple meal:

(1) I rinsed and tore the bokchoy (白菜 báicài / bairtsay) up into small pieces (cooks more quickly)

(2) I added a few goji berries (枸杞 gǒuqǐ / goouchii) [Potential health benefits and quality of dried fruits: Goji fruits, cranberries and raisins: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27979197]

(3) I poured some hot water (from the drinking water fountain provided by the cabin owner) into our insulated thermos mugs to prewarm them. Then I added the bokchoy and the goji berries, poured hot water on top and put the lid on.

(4) After about an hour, we opened our mugs and enjoyed some warm veggie soup. We hadn’t thought of bringing any seasoning with us, but we still enjoyed the flavor (the intense hunger we experienced after our hike made us appropriately grateful for our makeshift meal).

Most leafy vegetables cook rather easily. If you add carrots or similar root vegetables, you would need to cut them very thinly and perhaps add more hot water.

Another option would be to boil water using a solar heater and store the water using something like a black teapot.

I hope my simple example will inspire other people to come up with good ideas in the coming economic collapse.

I found your Steemit account while reading through some Q&A on Quora, hello from Taiwan!

Hello to you! That's a German camera, isn't it? I can't remember the name, but I know they take excellent pictures (if you can find the film).

Wow! You speak at least 3 languages well enough to write in them!! I am impressed!

Thanks, but speaking more than one language is no big deal if you're born in Europe.

I was born in Europe :) and languages were not my forte. I actually had to repeat a year in school because I failed Latin and English. I do remember telling my English teacher that I was just fine with German only.
You never know what life brings your way :)

So sad. I strongly believe that anyone with a normal IQ (anything above 85 or 90) can learn several languages if they overcome their mental blocks and use the right techniques (including an initial silent period, lots and lots of easy reading on interesting subjects and opportunities to listen and chat with other people). If small children can learn a new language in a few months, of course adults can do it!

I don't completely agree with everything Benny says and does, but Chris Lonsdale is even better:

Moral: don't discourage yourself. Say goodbye to the ghosts of former teachers: go out and have fun!

You are right. It does take time. My English is pretty good now :) And I had an international grocery store and learned to name the food I sold in many different languages
