Thai-Style Fishcake / 滋味泰式鱼饼

Thai-style fishcakes make for a great starter served with a bowl of sweet chilli sauce as a sumptuous dip. Or you can add sesame flavour noodles creating a light, but tasty supper.

Homemade fish cakes can be just as delicious and in my opinion, so much better than the ones you buy from the shops. Try out my fish cake recipe today and you will taste the difference for yourself.


Ingredients (for 2):

150g cooked fish (or prawns)
2 garlic cloves
A handful of coriander leaves
1 hot red chilli (deseeded)
2 tsp of Thai fish sauce
1 tsp of dark soy sauce
A small handful of basil leaves
Juice of 1 lime
1 egg
½ cup flour
Salt and black pepper
3 tsp sunflower oil
Sweet chilli sauce (to serve)


Cooking Method:

Step 1: Place all the ingredients except the egg, seasoning, and oil in a food processor. Blend until it becomes a rough paste.

Step 2: Add the egg, salt and black pepper, and blend again.

Step 3: Heat the oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Scoop up 1 tsp of the mixture, then slice it into the pan and flatten to about 2cm thickness. Repeat until the entire mixture has been used up.

Step 4: Shallow-fry the fish cake for 2 minutes on each side until a golden colour. One useful tip is to be careful when turning the fish cake over to keep it remaining whole and not breaking apart.

Step 5: Serve hot with sweet chilli sauce on the side (wedges of fresh lime juice also go very well with it).

This recipe is super easy to make and should be ready in about 20 minutes. All you require are the ingredients and a food processor.

在我看来,自制的鱼饼可要比从外头买回来的更新鲜更好吃。今天就来试做我的鱼饼食谱,你自己就能体会到它有多么不同。

用料(两人份):

150克熟虾,或鱼
2瓣蒜
少许香菜
1根红辣椒(去籽)
2 茶匙泰国鱼露
1茶匙老抽
少许罗勒叶
1个青柠
1个鸡蛋
½杯面粉
盐和黑胡椒
3茶匙葵花籽油
甜辣椒酱

烹饪方法:

步骤1:将除了鸡蛋以外所有的材料放进搅拌机里,直到变成糊状物。
步骤2:添加鸡蛋,盐和黑胡椒粉,并再次搅拌。
步骤3:在平底锅里加油,待锅热后舀出1茶匙的混合物,小心放入锅内用中火煎。把鱼饼压扁至约2厘米的厚度。 重复此动作,把剩下的混合物用完。
步骤4:把鱼饼每边各煎两分钟,直至呈金黄色。在转动鱼饼时可要小心,以保持鱼饼的完整。
步骤5:做好就趁热吃哦,可适当加一些的青柠汁,配上甜辣椒酱吃。

这个食谱超级简单,全程只需大约20分钟。你只要把用料准备齐全,再加上搅拌机就可以开始做了。

@rea I love that when we eat in a Thai resto I always ask for this - they call it fish cookie here - in Dutch though but maybe just in our place. I was wondering what gives that after taste and thanks to you - #til it's basil :)
