Feelin' Strong, and I Got Big Dreams!

in #climbing7 years ago

Finished up another day at the climbing gym today!

It was the 2nd last ARC day -- with the last being tomorrow. Can't wait -- we've almost made it through the first phase! Hands are starting to get pretty raw!

I'm gonna keep things short at sweet again today -- because I feel like I was overwhelming people with how much I was rambling before...

Playing around on a Slopey V3 problem

Slopers are for sure one of my weaknesses. For those of you not in the know, a sloper is:

A sloping hold with very little positive surface. A sloper is comparable to palming a basketball.

Holding onto these kind of holds generally require you to get as much skin on there as possible, put pressure directly vertical (or perfectly 'normal' to the angle of pull), and move quite cautiously. It's weird -- whenever I try to pull hard on them, I can feel my right wrist starting to pop or even dislocate a little bit. It freaks me out, and it keeps me from putting everything I can into it -- which is frustrating. My wrist kinda generally clicks a lot on a good day though, so it's not that strange.

Coming out from the double undercling and moving onto some blocky pinches

This problem was actually quite a bit of fun! Big blocky holds allow for powerful moves, and these pink bastards actually had quite a lot to hold onto. My hand have actually been sweating quite a bit recently when I've been at the gym, so I greased off of this one as I was going for the finishing hold. Super sad about it.

That's all for now, y'all! See you for a big write up tomorrow!! Let me know what you think about the shorter posts... Now that I'm at the end, I kind of think I'm starting to miss updating the pictures and calendar each day...

The Pitch!

If you've made it this far down the post, then I give you mad props. This shit was longer than just a photo.

After my first few weeks on Steemit, I spent some time thinking about how I can make this space a little sexier. And two things came to mind that could really enable some cool looks at some cool places:

  • A drone;
  • Trad gear;
  • A van (and subsequently, gasoline -- Ideally, electricity).

Your votes and resteems will go towards making sure no rock goes uncrushed. Any funds withdrawn will exclusively go to climbing gear, climbing toys, climbing adventures, and some photography gear (drone) for climbing photography purposes. I have my own job for groceries.

When this post becomes roughly 24hrs old, I will use a portion of the liquid funds I have available and purchase some votes for this post. Get your votes in before that, and enjoy whatever curator rewards you can get!

Please vote and resteem generously. There's some amazing places on the island that I would like to share.

I try to respond to all questions and comments that I get, so make some noise! If you have any questions about some of the climbing jargon / lingo I used, just ask, and I'll break it down. I might even make it a feature in my next post, in which case I'll give you some credit, and maybe even some kind of reward... unknown at this time -- nobody has asked any questions... Yet!!

My solution to the wrist 'problem' is to firmly wrap a thin strap of tape around my wrist. Seems to do the trick for me on the nasty wrist twisting slopers.

The pink problem looks nice, getting sweaty hands from it ;-)

Oh I've never tried that! I'll give it a shot next time! Thanks!

I can't wait to start climbing those walls too! 💚 Seems like we have a passion in common :D

Passion might be an understatement. Obsession or compulsion maybe is better ;)

Following you for some good stuff!

Thank you so much!!! 💚

Awesome! I just got back from 2 hours of bouldering and then saw your post. Would be awesome with some more climbers on steemit. My wrist does the same as yours on the slopes. I don't know why, but it feels a bit weaker when it does it. How often do you climb?

Well done! 2 hr session is rock solid!

I was surprised to hear that others have the same wrist issue as me -- I guess it's not that uncommon, which is reassuring. haha.

In one of the comments above, @markpu suggested putting a thin strip of tape around the wrist for support. I'm going to try it out and see if it helps -- I'll update in here with some comments.

Historically, I've been getting out to the gym around 2x week on average. Right now, with this surge of training motivation, I'm there anywhere from 4~5x/week, with some additional cardio work on the off days. How about yourself?

Damn brother. 4.5x/week is pretty great! Let me know if the tape around the wrist works. I try not to climb too many slopes because of that. I am currently at 2/week, which feels great for me at the moment. The last thing I want to do is getting injured. Also, I find that 3-4 days of rest makes me grow a lot stronger. Rest is so great if you just keep thinking about how it builds you stronger. Love it. I'll try to post a video of me climbing some time in the future. I would love it you did the same. Would be awesome to give feedback, tips etc. :)
