Today I want to talk about the pawn shop in Hong Kong! Why this is related to the topic "BIG"? In Chinese, all the pawn shop was named as "Dai Aap" that combined with two words, big and pawn!

今天我想談談香港的當鋪，那麼與“大”的主題有什麼關連？ 在中文裡，所有當舖都被稱為“大押”！

In each district, all pawn shops will hang red signage. They wish lucky will come as a bat with money. In Chinese, the words of bats and "luck" are the same, mean that in addition to bringing lucky to the pawnshop, and also wish the customers will return with happiness and money.

在每區都會有些店鋪掛上紅色底的招牌，原來它寓意著鴻福齊天，招牌上有一隻含金錢的蝙蝠，在中文裡，蝠與"福"諧音，指除了為當鋪帶來生意外，寓意希望來光顧的客人會帶着幸福和金錢回去。

There must be a wooden screen at the entrance of every pawnshop, that is "the embarrassing screen" so that passers-by can not see the customers of the pawn.

當鋪入門處必有一個木屏風，俗語說"遮醜板"，讓路人看不到典當人的樣貌。

Pawn is one of the oldest industries in human society, and even if there is money, pawns will appear. Especially in China, as early as two or three thousand years ago, pawns already existed. It is said to be the oldest pawn shop in Hong Kong. It has a history of more than 200 years, so many of the pawn shops have been listed as cultural relics and historic sites, some even retaining the outlook, but the interior is changed to a restaurant!

典當是人類社會最古老的行業之一，甚至說，只要有了金錢，典當就出現了。特別是在中國，早在二三千年前，典當就已經存在。據說是香港最古老的當鋪，距今已有二百多年歷史，所以很多棟大押已被列為文物古蹟，有些甚至保留外貎，內裡改為餐廳！

Nowadays, the developing of banks, credit cards, and electronic money, I believe that fewer people will visit the pawnshop industry, another sunset industry. Usually we know the pawn shop only in the movie or novels! If you are traveling to Hong Kong, you should to take many photos of these still-popular historic buildings!

在現今社會富庶，銀行、信用機構、電子貨幣的出現，我相信更少人會光顧當鋪這個行業，又一個夕陽行業，通常只會在電影小說裡才會接觸到大押，往往給人一種背後有無數個小故事的想像，如果你來到香港旅遊，不妨留意一下這些仍然存在的特式歷史建築！
