" Fright Night" by Craig Gillespie - movie review

in #cinema6 years ago (edited)

It is precisely because it is summertime that one expects to go to the cinema with a bunch of popcorn and without much strain to kill two hours of precious time, which this season should spend on the beach or somewhere abroad. Accidentally or not, the so-called summer blockbuses cause mixed reactions, and there remains a Conan to whom we rely to justify our presence in this category. I start a little bit to make it clear that even at low seasonal standards, most of the summer offers are insult to the average intelligent viewer and could not gain your approval unless you are a penguin, a monkey or a smoker. Luckily, " Fright Night" event is not exactly the case. Not to be near the perfection, this remake of the 1985 Cult Horror contains enough good ingredients to keep your attention through most of the impressive 110 minutes of the genre. To start with, it's a good luck that for the past 26 years, the film has not got a dozen extras, which greatly increases the interest in the new version. He commends the director Craig Gillespie that he has not succumbed to the actual Twilight tendency and, instead of the mild teenage melodrama, we can enjoy an almost classical horror movie. Unlike her previous films, Lars and the real girl and Mr. Woodcock (I admit that I both fell asleep), here he decided not to experiment, and as far as there are some surprises, they mostly affect the vision and are generally quite enjoyable.

So ... The life of teenager Charlie Brewster suddenly changes when the new neighbor Jerry, in addition to not throwing his garbage, turns out to be a vampire. As a result, a lot of neighbors are beginning to disappear, including Charlie's best friend. As far as the good level of production is concerned, this is largely the case for the selection of the actors. Charlie's role is one of the already established young stars, Anton Jelchin, whom you have certainly remembered not only from Terminator: Salvation and Star Trek, but also from Charlie Bartlett, Alpha Dog, the series Huff and the impressive first major role in the cinema in Hearts in Atlantis. Not that he has to show miracles of acting, but definitely the image of a typical provincial teenager at the center of extraordinary events fits him perfectly. The pleasant surprises start from the moment Colin Farrell appears, whom we certainly have not seen in the interesting thing of Bruges. Man is obviously entertained to the extent that, from the very first frame, he convinces us how successful his choice of this role is, and once again proves his ability to balance between serious and comedy. The great attraction, however, is a little unexpectedly David Tennant, who has never been particularly interesting to me, even as Dr. Hu. It is his merit in the genre definitions of the film to enter and comedy. Almost unrecognizable at first, he fills the screen as early as his first appearance, and as anything he can move from the hearts of fans Chris Sarandon who plays Peter Vincent in the first film, and here he makes one of the reminding of short reminders. I can not help mentioning the name of Christopher Mintz - Plass, whose role is not at the height of Sutt in the gossip, but still gives him the opportunity to demonstrate his inexhaustible energy. Perhaps alongside their joint work in the United States of Tara, the director has convinced Tony Colette to play the sexy mother of the protagonist but, as they say, these are extras to which we can add the obvious lure to the male audience, Imognon Putts.

It will not be exaggerated if I say that from a technical point of view the film is flawless. The initial scene also promises an original vision that is fully justified by the end. Spanish operator Javier Agigresarobe, who has worked with lights like Milos Foreman and Woody Allen, has completely abandoned the twilight vision of Twilight to get us into the depressing atmosphere of a typical American suburb. The few 3D animations remind us that technology has contributed significantly to the development of horror films, and the scene where Colin Farrell pursues the car with Charlie's family is shot uniquely. All this happens against the background of Ramin Jazadi's perfectly fitting music laws, who even wrote the music of Prison Break and Game of Thrones, would still be one of my favorite composers. Excluding one or two unnecessarily long scenes (in the first half), " Fright Night" is a completely decent film that, without retrospect, marks a return to the classic form of horror films. Something more. Obviously, his creators have made a lot of effort to avoid the unenviable fate of most remakes. In my opinion, they have succeeded.
