There are many people who are angry with God, partly out of ignorance but sometimes also their own personal malignity. There are also people who claim to believe in God, but live as if they do not.

From what I saw of Russia, and atheists, and russian atheists, is that it is a residual effect of militant atheism from the God hating Bolsheviks, to teach people a life of nothing but matter in motion, materialism, one's being a parenthesis between nothing before birth and nothing after death. People are recovering from that, but it will take time, and mistrust of the official ROC comes from well before the Bolshevik Revolution. That being said, Pravoslaviye is in their DNA.
