Food for Thought (#37) Facing Death with Jesus 1

in #christianity6 years ago

26 And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified and said, It is a ghost! And they screamed out with fright. Matt 14:26 (AMP)

The day that John the Baptist was killed was a very sad day for Jesus. That night, all of Jesus’ apostles also faced certain death on the lake. But Jesus was praying for them (even without their knowledge).

The wind was so bad that for hours (all through the night) they were rowing boat, a distance that should not have taken 1 hour. Peter was a seasoned fisherman, he knew how to handle storms and raging seas. They kept fighting for their lives until they saw a shape like a man walking towards them on the water.

Reason told them it was a ghost. Their training as fishermen did not tell them how to handle ghosts in a storm. As soon as their minds accepted Jesus as an evil spirit – they began to cry out in fear. They gave permission to the spirit of death at that moment.

But Jesus immediately spoke up. “It is me!” and Peter responded with one of the most irrational statements in the bible. Let me take a walk with you on the water. He did.

30 But when he perceived and felt the strong wind, he was frightened, and as he began to sink, he cried out, Lord, save me [from death]! 31 Instantly Jesus reached out His hand and caught and held him, saying to him, O you of little faith, why did you doubt? Matt 14:30-31

Rationalization cannot explain spiritual things that do not obey the laws of nature or reason.

Once your mind cannot justify the experience, even with Jesus right by your side, you will sink and fail. God has provided a better way.

Ephesians 3:14-19

14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19 and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
