Do you know that God detests it when we put our trust in mere human beings like ourselves? Till this day, I never knew how grievous this simple act (which is kind of a norm to most of us) is before our Creator… until my eyes fell on the word “cursed” as I read through a portion of the book of Jeremiah which happened to be the first reading of scripture for today - and it went:

Thus says the LORD: "Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the LORD.
For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see when good comes, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land which is not inhabited(Jer 17:5-6)

Trusting in our strength or wealth is equally as distasteful to Him.

Why trust in mere flesh when our absolute trust should be in our Almighty Creator who brought us all into existence?

Well, the reason is self-evident: that rich man/woman has promised us that juicy job, marriage, mansion, that fancy car we’ve been irking for, right? But the question is: all these, is our loving Heavenly Father not well able to grant us in accordance with our needs and state of life?

Obviously, we are mere humans and so we do like humans.

But know what?

It is high time we do away with our mundane mindsets in order to merit God’s rich blessings and promises.

And what’s His promises here as per trusting in Him, you might ask.

Good question!

Reading a bit down the same scripture portion above as well as the first book of Psalms you’ll unravel the ultimate answers:

We shall flourish like trees beside flowing waters, yielding fruits in due season…

And these are crowned with the promises and assurances of The Beatitudes (Lk 6:20-23)

Thus enlightened on the dividends of trusting in God, would you rather trust in God Almighty and merit His rich and eternal promises? Or would you trust in flesh and wealth and forteit those celestial promises?

And talking of trust in humans/things, how guaranteed are they as compared to God’s promises which are sure once we trust firmly in Him?
