When One is Overwhelmed With Depression and Anxiety

A person may get overwhelmed with depression and anxiety. How are we going to react? There may be some people making remarks like "think positive" or "cheer up, don't think that way". Such people might be missing something, or just have no idea about such mental illnesses. With those words, people suffering it might feel even worse.

It can help if we just provide comfort by words, a comforting hug, and telling someone "hoping you would be okay". That way, they will feel the concern and love you are giving the depressed person.

It hurts when you express to your loved one about being depressed, and you will be blamed for it like "stop being paranoid", etc. It is even contributing to the problem. We should keep in mind that our words and actions can affect a person's mental health.

Sort:  

Take a deep breath and tell yourself that nothing truly matters. Look at the world from a higher level and appreciate the vastness of the universe and stop focusing on miniscule matters. Avoid triviality at all costs.
