Daily Psalms and Proverbs - Sunday 6/18/17
A good day to all reading this! Today's reading is Psalm 3:5-8 and Proverbs 2:6-8:
Psalm 3:5-8
5 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.
6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.
7 Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.
8 Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.
Proverbs 2:6-8
6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
Psalm 3 is specifically about King David fleeing from his son, Absalom, who is attempting to overthrow his father's rule. In the midst of being hunted by his son and his forces, David took refuge in the Lord, knowing and trusting that his life was in His hands. With this knowledge, he could still have peace, despite his circumstances, and praise the Lord.
In Proverbs 2:6-8, Solomon tells his son that the Lord will give us the wisdom we need if we want it. He will be a shield - a buckler - to us if we listen to Him. He's the one who provides and tends the paths of justice, and He enables His saints to stay on this path.
