I think it is easier for lazy parents to teach a child to be moral based on the fear of being punished than to have to explain the importance of being a socially moral person. So that's what is why religion exists, to be a repository of moral principles accepted by society, and that facilitates passing these moral values on to children, based on fear of punishment.

Religion is the way in the search of God.
Children easily believe anything, only time and teachings will determine their beliefs.
