The beauty of Chinese cheongsam

Cheongsam, Chinese and World Chinese women's traditional clothing [1], is known as the Chinese quintessence and the female national suit [2-3]. Although there are still many controversies on its definition and time, it is still one of the most magnificent phenomena and forms in China's long clothing culture. [4]

Cheongsam was formed in the 20s of last century [5]. Some scholars believe that its origin can be traced back to the clothing [6-7] of the pre Qin and Han Dynasties. After the Republic of China, it became the most popular [8] of women's clothing after 20s. It was designated by the government of the Republic of China as one of the national dresses in 1929. [9]

After 50s, the cheongsam was gradually cooled down on the mainland, especially in the cultural revolution, which was regarded as "feudal dross" and "bourgeois sentiment" criticized. [10]

After 80s, with the emphasis on traditional culture in the mainland, as well as the influence brought by film culture, fashion shows and beauty pageant, cheongsam not only revived gradually in mainland China, but also spread all over the world. [4]

In 1984, the cheongsam was appointed by the State Council as a dress for women diplomats. [12]

From the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing, the Olympic Games, the Asian Games and the international conferences and expositions were chosen as the ceremonial costumes. [13]

In May 23, 2011, the handicraft craft of cheongsam became one of the third batch of national intangible cultural heritage approved by the State Council. [14]

On November 2014, at the twenty-second APEC meeting held in Beijing, the Chinese government chose cheongsam as the dress of the leaders' wife of the participating countries.
