Building Life Skills for Children - My Personal Experiences - Education systems for Children

in #children5 years ago

A few days ago I wrote a blog on Helping Children Gain Confidence, where I narrated about what challenges I faced for my Son in his early days of School where he was completely shattered on his confidence part and had withdrawn, becoming an introvert.

After that whole incident, there was a lot of effort that was taken to bring him back to a normal level. And as that was done it was again time for him to get back to School. Though he was getting back to normal he was not completely normal and he would still be hesitant talking to strangers. He would just not want to talk to anyone who was new to him. Going for a School admission means an interview of the Child and the Parent. Yes I was worried for him, because he would just not speak to any third person till the time he would be comfortable and that comfort level would take a long time for him to come.
As parents we always want best for our Child, and so did I. In Mumbai getting Admission in a Tier 1 School is like a competition. People would queue up from the night before when the Admission forms would be distributed. It is literally a nightmare getting admission in a Grade A School in Mumbai. Nevertheless even if we do not like these systems we still go through it for many reasons, and I am talking about some years ago when things were completely different.

So I got admission forms for 3 Grade A Schools for my son. The interview date arrived, we went through the interviews and the answer was what I was always dreading out. It was No because he did not speak anything in front of the panel.
But then he had to join a School. So we started looking out for other options and finally managed to get into a Level B School. I had no issues with it, because the Teacher's I found over there were more humble then the Grade A Schools. So somewhere I was feeling relieved that he would be taken care off. And this time I made it a point that I would visit his school every day for the 1st month and keep a track on what is happening with him.

I had a pleasant experience with his School. They did not give much of Homework, So I had good enough time to concentrate on his extra curricular activities. I would enroll him for hobby classes to build up on his personality and his overall development. I was happy with his progress.

To think of it, the Education system is a big time business and also so much of a pressure for Children. Why would they expect so much from a small Child. Why do they want to pressurize them at such early age and cannot give them their time to learn and grow. Each child has a different capability and it would be so wrong to judge a child in a 10 minutes interview. Also these big schools I would notice would go on the status of the Parents. Sometime your child may not do good in the interview but if the parent holds some good degree of occupation like a Doctor or so, they would still consider the child. But if you are an average parent and if your child is also average then you should forget seeking admission in these schools.
Anyways I always believe whatever happens is for good. In my next blog I will write about the influences of the school that your Child goes through.

I feel you as a mother on this one , right now i have a 4 year old kid , she's on her daycare , pre school and she still don't talk much understadable words and she 's the only one who's so hyper hehe. We always worry on how our kids would be able to cope up with their environment especially at school. I just hope your son will do better and better each day , for sure he will. Here in our country , we don't have auch interviews for gradeschool, becaus eyou're right they're just kids and don't have much knowledge about those interview thingies.. and i agree with you that it happened for a reason , long as you and your kid are comfortable with the school , you know what's beat for him.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. My son is grown up now and doing well for himself. It's so good to hear that in your place you do not have these interview systems, they really are pathetic and brings such low morale for children:-(

Education is the biggest business now a days, they do advertise nicely, and make a good marketing plan, and even lure to get all the certifications, to be termed as Grade A. Its perfectly fine, if our kids do not get there .

Very true, it is fine if they don't go to the top schools. As far as they have their IQ level build up which is more important it is good.
