Hi, chess fans! Again I invented a little chess puzzle for you, but after the last problem was a rather hard nut to crack this time it should be much easier I guess. Things are very clear: white has to move and force a fast checkmate! Can you find out how? :)
(As always, chess programs have to stay switched off! :)

Hallo Schachfreunde! :)
(Schachsoftware muss wie immer ausgeschaltet bleiben! :)

White to move: / Weiß am Zug:

Sort:

Solution

1. Nd4! (idea: 2. Nf3#)
1. ... exd4
2. Rh5+ Nxh5
3. Nf5#

End position:

Hi @Jaki01, i like the riddles you are posting a lot :D so iam in trying to solve this (only because you said it is going to be easy).
Ok how about e2 to d4, then black moves e5 to d4, white tower then moves to threaten the king d5 to h5. Enemy horse needs to do something about that and charges in on the tower so g7 to h5. Then white horse takes the final blow with moving from g3 to f5. This is leaving the king under pressure with no movement options left.
done
iam sure there is a better way to do that without losing that horse at the start .. but i just cant get my head around it.

thanks alot for the problem, as you know i love to work this things out :D

Hi, @jedigeiss, hereby I declare you as winner, as you are the first one who found the correct solution! (I am answering somewhat late as even a chess player needs to eat from time to time. :-) )

really? this is the best solution there is ? well you said that it was a bit easier than the last one. i really only had problems to find the first move from white, after that all fell into place :D
Wohooo !

What happens if e5 doesn't take d4? He doesn't have to, right?

For example, after the first white move, I would more likely go rook d8 takes d5

How do you force checkmate then?

Cheers

Then Nf3# is checkmate.

Ah - sehr gut!

I'm late @jedigeiss

(Knight)d4 - exd4
(Rook)h5+ - (Knight)xh5
(Knight)f5#

Very well done ... just @jedigeiss was somewhat faster ...

Right, he's the best!

no i need to disagree sir ! :) like said in the post above i just had a lucky first move :) and then it all fell into place.

Nd4 is actually the best move. i Calculated with Nf4.... i believe both are winning..., But the d4 is far better

  1. Nf4 is not winning. :) (Check out my answer under your comment ...)

I think this is the solution:
Knight e2-> d4
Pawn e5 -> d4
Tower d5 -> h5
Knight g7 -> h5
Knight g3 -> f5
Checkmate

Yes, this was easier than the last one. I was only able to solve the last one with a friend.

Well done as well, but some other participants were a little bit faster - hope you enjoyed it! :)

Very nice. A sideline might be: 1.Nd4 - e4 (prevents Nf3) 2. Rh5! Nxh5 and both Knights can checkmate on f5 :-)

Nf4 is the move.

If exf4 then white plays Rh5#

If Rxg5 then white plays Ng6#

The only escape I see for black is Kg5

After which white Can play Ne6+ fucking the queen and the king. And next move, black queens dies.

I hope I tried

After

  1. Nf4 exf4
  2. Rh5+ Nxh5
  3. Nf5 is no checkmate because the king can move to g5 ...

The bishop is covering g5 so the king can't escape - I think you have it - over in two

Nice!

No, only 1. Nd4! wins - check out the solution above ...

Nd4 is the more correct move.

Thanks for the puzzle, did you compose this?

I'm a little bit late to solve, but definitely love the chess riddles. Keep em coming.

Nf4. Qf7 is best defence?

  1. Nf4 exf4 and black wins.

Very good post @jaki01
I like post you
