Bayawan City high school students' bamboo crafts and innovations

Three weeks ago was the a week-long Creating a Livelihood Project
in Bayawan where bamboo musical instruments and other bamboo crafts and innovations were taught to some hight school students by @flabbergast-art. He left for Kabankalan City immediately after to start another workshop, followed by an on-going training in Tan-awan.

@flabbergast-art needed to go back to Bayawan for the program and to say goodbye to the community as his stay there has come to end for the second leg of @walkofhope Tour.

In the program, our students have to show their own finished products and got to play their chosen instruments.

As for the kids' finished products, a creative in Bayawan supervises the transfer to a store in Dumaguete City where each piece is already bought by the owner. To continue the works, @flabbergast-art made sure that some kids were selected and taught in making own specific bamboo craft. This way, these kids can still earn from what they can make at the safety of their own homes. Bamboos are locally harvested by one of the creatives in Bayawan. Not forgetting last April's bamboo planting, as the first project of @walkofhope in Negros Province.

Far right is @flabbergast-art and the kids along Bayawan boulevard.

Our Walk of Hope Family wants to extend our gratefulness to the community of Bayawan City who adopted @flabbergast-art since April, the Creatives of Bayawan and most especially to the Dagsa Family who opened their home to him, including myself when i visited in June.

As @flabbergast-art is back now in Tan-awan to continue the kids training there, he have rented a place for a couple of months, the duration of his stay is unknown. As there is no internet in the whole community, he needs to get down to Kabankalan every weekend for updates amd what not.

As for the Creative Bamboo Hub, there's no news as yet on the location and on how far they've been with the design, this includes the livelihood training for our scholars in Kabankalan City.

Liquid payouts of this post will go to our funds for TOOLS needed for the kids training in Tan-awan.

Grass (in this case Bamboo) is a very underestimated plant.

By the world? Not in these parts. But it varies per provinces..do you know that there is a black one? a japanese variety.

Bamboo fiber is anti-bacterial when woven into a cloth
It grows at an insane speed,
in some cases better then wood

Hence my bamboo socks😂🤣
Do you know that the bamboo shoots are edible?

yeah, but never had any.
I like bamboo but wouldn't dare to plant any. I have seen quiet a few bamboo bushed growing wild and out of control.

Left alone..they might. But 3 years or more is a long time to be neglected.

I think it is the lack of knowledge, since bamboo is not a native plant.

Some plants grow shoots that go undetected because people are not even aware of it.
Once one shoot travels onto a neighbors property then the battle begins...

You need some Filipino neighbours! Pickled bamboo shoots are delicious you know.
