Update on Syrian Appeal

in #charity7 years ago

I made an appeal on Steemit to Vote for the children of Syria just before Christmas.
With just steemit upvotes we managed to raise 57 Dollars which I topped up to make a 60 Euro donation on Christmas Day to UNICEF.

A great success - Thank You

273 Steemians voted for the Children of Syria in this appeal. A big thank you for your votes and your encouragement with this campaign. Just to let you know if you haven't voted yet it's not too late. Vote for the children of Syria this Christmas on Steemit
If there are any additional votes on the original post, which pushes the post above 60 Euro, I will make an additional equivalent donation to UNICEF at the end of the month.

Win-Win

The post was 100% power up so the funds raised stayed in my Steemit account but I made an equivalent donation to UNICEF Ireland from my bank account.

A model for donations

I want to develop this idea further to see how Steemit can be used to raise further funds for Charities so stay tuned for further posts on this topic.

It can be a win win for Steemit and for any Charity.
Not only did the appeal raise funds for a worthy charity and a 100% power up for Steemit but it raised awareness of Steemit among a wider audience.
It's another great way to promote and use the platform.

  • Fundraisers could post information about campaigns and causes here
  • They could share their stories to raise awareness about their cause
  • They can follow up to show people who have donated how the funds are being used
  • It can be a way to easily raise funds by just getting upvotes
  • Charities can share links via twitter to their causes story here on Steemit

Transparency

Where money is raised on behalf of a charity it's important to be as transparent about the donation as possible.

  • This follow up post is payout declined as it's a follow up for information only. If you wish to still contribute please upvote the original post before the 24th of January.
  • If you would like to confirm that UNICEF Ireland received the money from the original post you can contact Méabh O’Carroll in the Dublin UNICEF office on +353 (0)1 878 3000. She will confirm that a donation of 60 Euro was raised from a Steemit Campaign on 25th of December.
