Use steemit for the greater good
Well as you already know Steemit allows content providers to receive income for their work, but what if you start using Steemit not only to reward its users but also to raise funds for certain charities.
Earlier today I posted about how it easy it is to crowdfund projects with steemit, in the same way we could raise funds and donate them to charity.
This "Steemit Charity" could also help attract new users and give Steemit some good press.
As this idea requires a great deal of trust since the OP will be handling users funds, I think it should be done by either @ned or @dantheman or by a well respected member of the community that they designate.
If we raise more than 0.5 BTC we could even become a Sponsor Member of Bitgive Foundation.

I think that's a great idea. It would be great to encourage organizations such as the Bitgive Foundation to set up an account here and receive donations directly! If you reach out to them you can post about it here and get credit too! I think there would just need be some verification done that an account is associated with a particular charity. Maybe PGP?
Yes, I agree it would be best if the charity creates an account.. I will try to reach them.
