One Little Action A Day

Greetings, Steemians! How are y'all doing today? I've been in a major funk lately, and sometimes I can kick my depression in the teeth if I find some project I can handle that I feel good about, like going out and chalking messages, or taking a litter walk. But some days, getting out of bed is hard, let alone showering, getting dressed, putting up my hair, and facing people. So what to do then?

This is when I try and focus on one little action. If I do my one little action, even if I spend the rest of the day swimming in a pool of self hatred, I at least can tell myself that I did something to try and make the world a little bit better.

So for instance, yesterday I planted some tree seeds. Today I called my state senator and congress critter about another horrific bill some of them are trying to pass; I also wrote an email to a company about their packaging. Two little actions today!

These may not seem like a big deal, but if millions of people wrote to Proctor and Gamble every day, they'd have to sit up and take notice, or face the wrath and lost business of angry customers. If everyone inundated their congress critters with phone calls and paper letters (the most effective ways to contact them, per a congressional aide; emails are largely ignored), they'd either respond or fear us. Think I'm being hyperbolic about that? Colorado's shitty senator Gardner was so inundated with angry calls, letters, and protests for MONTHS after Trump's election (his voice mail box was often full, both locally and in DC), he was hiding from constituents and still won't do town halls; he called the police on disabled activists outside his office because he was so afraid of them.

The power of numbers, y'all.

So do a little deed, even if you think it's insignificant. Write a company about their products/packaging/practices. Even if you don't use those products, remember that others do who don't even question what it's made of or the massive waste it creates. Learn a new skill that enables you to make your own replacement for those products. Write your representatives who are supposed to work for you. Write a letter for Amnesty International, or write a letter to a political prisoner to give them some cheer and to know they are not forgotten. Plant some seeds. Pick up some litter. Help a neighbor. It all adds up.

And then you can know that you did something, in a world that teaches us to be apathetic and to give up our power. You did something, when the overwhelming weight of the problem makes you want to roll over and give up.

You did something, rather than let your silence be interpreted as consent.

And that's a hell of a lot.

That Red Fish your momma always warned you about

You are an absolute inspiration Phe, and a living testament to the effectiveness of the power of 1.

Aw, thank you. 😊

Such great suggestions here! Good for you for getting the gumption to create a well thought out intelligent post. You've inspired me to do a blog post on making your own self-care products. Been on my 'to-do' list too long. I send best wishes on moving into a new day-to-day experience that boosts you into feeling good more often then not. Where smiling and laughing are natural norm!! New ideas spring. A new found confidence rises!!! Because that space imo is the most valuable position we have towards the evil. Claiming all of our personal power and feeling that centeredness!! MMmmmm! So good. The ripple effect of that wave sends good so powerful the matrix crumbles. Well, that's often my utopia! 🤣 Much Love and Big Hugs @pheonixwren Chin up! Shoulders back. Sama vritti breath -- do you know that one? (Equal duration inhale and exhale with calm slow transitions) it heals the Vegus nerve apparently.

Thank you so much. 😊 I knew the breath but not the name for it, so thanks! I didn't know that about the vagus nerve, either. Hmm! I should do that more often. It's actually wicked difficult for me though as I have shit for lung capacity. I get asked if I smoke (I don't), have asthma (I don't, but I get similar symptoms when my shoulders are pulled back or there is pressure on my chest), and the modern computerized pulmonary function tests often can't even read me at all and it takes a dozen tries, getting harder with each try. I have always been this way tho I don't have a reason for it (except the pressure on chest thing has worsened with time). So anyway, yeah ...deep breaths usually leave me lightheaded and winded!

❤ wish i could be there in person to work with you. I wouldn't force your breath or work hard at it at all. Just relax and enjoy what breath will move through your nostrils and down into your belly. Obviously you're a professional breather!! What you experience is completely enough as it is!!! And, cooler then that it's perfectly unique. It will be very delicate fine breath. If you're getting lightheaded then you can try way less!! Too much work is going into it. It's important to feel ultra comfortable any time you go into practice pranayama (breath work). If that makes any sense! I took a workshop this weekend that combines somatics (retrains movement and nerve patterns in the body) There's some pretty awesome techniques to release trauma from the body. Pretty cool stuff ❤

Go you! Way to be proactive! High five!

Decided to give myself the rest of the week off after finishing up my tax return over the weekend. 😎

Kudos for still using the US mail.. a positive message nonetheless .. maybe what ever letter whomever is reading from whoever will have a impact on that person's actions.

That's true too, maybe the congressional aide takes up the cause or the employee in customer service does. You never know!
PS, if you were interested in an #ophumanangels patch (you can see them on @khackett's blog), speaking of mail, I have one for you too when you have a mailing address. But if you don't, that's cool too. :)
