Are You Doing What Everyone Else is Doing?
There are lot's of temptations that surround us and many people don't see what is detrimental to our overall well-being. I myself am still learning and made mistakes that did hurt not only myself but others as well.
Sheep Herd
Understanding truth and our morals are what creates value in our lives. We see many people in the world change their morals and beliefs for money. The usual term used is "selling-out" and going against what an individual once believed morally and no longer accepting the truth.
It can be difficult especially when there are a lot of detrimental behaviors being accepted by social groups. We gather in groups to feel that we belong and are a part of them to be socially accepted. When it comes to a social group, adults can easily be socially conditioned and to accept the information from others as truth. Accepting ideas that turn into our own. Having a type of "sheep herd mentality" where individuals are influenced by their peers to adopt certain behaviors. A lot of individuals go through this without knowing it and end up doing it to themselves blindly.
Most individuals do the right thing when they find themselves in moral dilemmas that they encounter in their lives. With life experience and those that guided them in life help create their own understanding of morality.
There are individuals that will convince their thoughts and beliefs onto others as being correct and other's are wrong. Some can be so manipulated to agree and that any form of resistance will have the group defend what they have been convinced of.
Yes, a somewhat cheesy Morpheus quote but holds truth.

So when we see wrong doings and things we know that can have a detrimental effect on things we ourselves and others value, we have a responsibility to enforce things that are detrimental and without personal gain.
An individual may face consequences when going against a social group and be seen as an outcast and face backlash for not going along with what a group does. Some may feel left out or develop a fear of missing out if they don't do whatever everyone else is doing in a particular group.
Being disciplined and staying true to yourself can build up a person's individuality to find their own paths. Giving the power to decide to do what is right or wrong, good or bad, lead or follow.
A lot of individuals as they grow older have regrets and would have done things differently when they look back at their past behavior and choices that they have made. Some will regret things because they knew the decisions they made were wrong at the time but chose to see it right. Others may not have known any better and it took them long to realize they have made a mistake.
Be The Change
Standing up to fight for what's right can indeed make one an outcast. Telling the truth in a time of deceit is a revolutionary act. Or something like that ;)
Standing out exposes one, but it can inspire others to stand together :) Be the change and live by example.

sticking your neck out to be moral when against the crowd is dangerous and is the usual reason people act immorally I'd say.
Yeah, I left steemit after being flag abused and came back 3 months later to still being flag abused. Standing up doesn't happen much on a platform that has most people focusing on money, as that likely decreases their revenue stream lol.
Today is everyone is SO plugged into the system of dependency. They listen to what is fed them by the programmed dinosaur media, facebook or their select group of friends. The people become sheeple when they are programmed by the media and all of its counterparts. Yes folks are outcasts when they think for themselves outside the box and decide to take a different route. We are not encouraged to think for ourselves. We are expected to blindly believe what is fed us. Are grandparents and great grandparents were not that way. They were self-reliant self-made folks who could think on their own and were not dumbed down by media, fluoride in the water or hooked on useless pharma drugs. They also were not apathetic to worthy causes. They had the grit and balls to take a stand for truth, God and all that is good. They knew that one must earn his way rather than be given handouts to create dependency. It is hard to get off the heroine drug of dependency but we must do it if we are going to reach our full potential as a people rather than continue to be blind sheeple ready to me the next meal of our enemies. WAKE UP! STAND UP! WIPE OFF ALL OF APATHY AND DEPENDENCY AND REACH YOUR TRUE POTENTIAL! I KNOW YOU CAN! That was a wonderful post. Thanks for sharing. - Troy

Well the thing is that you really need to understand things before you go with crowd or against it.
Just imagine how many people fought for capitalism or communism and how many of those people had understanding of both ideologies. While people in capitalist society could become communists\people in communist society could become capitalists, it simply doesn't make them right, it may be right but so it may be wrong it is just a random choice.
So decision should be based on knowledge.
You could have the wrong knowledge from misinformation. The decision should be based on truth and understanding. I'm sure that's what you're saying and yes I can agree with you.

Great post, when the Matrix came out I was 14 and that really opened my eyes. That and having 2 parents who never followed the norm, they always went the opposite of everyone else.
To me, following the hurd is like shooting yourself in the foot, Im not gonna do it just cuz everyone else is doing it. If everyone decides they are gonna drink coffee, Im drinking tea, or if everyone wants to go for a hike, Im going dirt biking. Its kind of a big "up yours" and also to differ myself from the norm. I guess to me, being unlike most people is normal, Id rather create my own path than follow someone else mundane 9-5 life.
But maybe that is the norm now?

Life is sometimes not as we imagine, but it does not mean we must yield to the circumstances. A lot of people willing to leave social life just because of the money, as if money is everything in life. They have no soul of humanity between the fellow, but sharing and understanding between each other, bringing peace in life. May we include into the people who appreciate one please help your fellow.

For the first time I stopped "following" what others do or say in a situation that it is really important: Work. And actually it is quite difficult to not feel or think "did I do wrong?"... I'm just waiting patiently to find my honest and dreamed job that could take me to my desired goals.
