May 30 Days Writing Challenge - Day Seven: Name 3 Things That Must Be Done Immediately To Make Steemit.com A Better Experience
After poking about Steemit this afternoon, I decided that I should contribute to @dragosroua's 30-day writing challenge. In particular, the topic about what would make Steemit better immediately.
1. Feed Organization
This falls under the same category as the features @santigs discussed in his post. Not only do we not have the features for better customization, no in-house community support, we can't even filter feeds according to their tags.
The current set up does not allow you to actively keep up with the people you follow. You miss posts unless you manually click through each and everyone of the persons you follow. I like Steemit, but I don't think I am willing to spend hours just to see who my favorite authors are up to.
The current model makes it impossible for you to organically follow more than a couple of dozen active posters. Let's face it, when will I ever read #kr when I don't even speak Korean? I would rather tune out certain tags to ease my browsing experience.
2. Language Support
I saw this comment on @dragosroua's own post. As part of the anti-spam effort, it's becoming a hilariously sad stereotype. I know it's a decentralized platform, but the lack of leadership and known active intiatives are holding these communities back.
You have the occasional @hashray who translates contents here and there for the benefit of the community. However, the effort is generally unknown and appears fruitless. The overall lack of guidance promotes scammers to gather clueless users who could have been productive content producers/curators for their segment of the blockchain.
3. The Wallet
From all the posts I've read, I think they have touched on all the items I care about. I would prefer some information from my wallet hidden from public. It's rather strange to me that all of our balances are shown to the general populace. I'm all for transparency, but I think it's a bit too much.
In addition, why is the Wallet a method of direct message on this platform? You'd think memos, too, should be personal and internal, not items flashed to everyone. They are not memos, they are more like billboards.
Once again, I understand Steemit is meant to be a decentralized platform. However, I don't think STINC has laid enough of the foundation for its users so they can go on and build upon it. The current situation demands talented members of the community to step up and develop for the platform. For people like me who do not have the technical background, the next best thing is to support those with visions. I think the social leaders would agree as well.
Steemit is so early in its development, but hopefully as the value of the network increases we will see more people invest in making it better.
I have this feeling that all the STEEM and Steem Inc developers are busy with smart media tokens.
How about we learn to walk before we run? Steem has a whole bunch of flaws that need to be fixed before it can run tokens for other social media platforms.
Maybe it's just greed.
So far, we don't even have more updates on SMTs.
It makes you wonder if STINC lost all the brains behind their tech when @dan left.
