What's The Best Thing That Happened To You Because Of Steemit...30 Days Writing Challenge- Day 3.
This is day 3 of the 30 days writing challenge by @dragosroua. I saw it last night and resolved to join today. I am sure it would be fun all the way. I look forward to reading interesting articles from fellow steemians. Now on to business, the best thing that happened to me because of steemit...
The best things in life are free.
A lot of people may dispute this statement but in my opinion, it is so. The best things in life indeed are free, so is steemit. I heard about steemit for the first time September, 2017. My sister joined then and she implored me to do the same. I refused, the whole steemit idea seemed absurd and looked too much like a scam. Besides that, i was not sure i could handle writing.
Writing seemed like something i won't be good at but steemit has taught me otherwise. So the best thing that has ever happened to me because of steemit is the discovery of my love for writing while being able to earn for my efforts at the same time.
Being unemployed made me try out steemit early February this year just to keep busy while searching for a good job. My sister was already making a bit of an headway here so i was convinced i would not be wasting my time.
I was challenged into writing by a dear friend of mine, his name is Valentine. I should confess now that i have a terrible habit of reading while on an outing with friends. A little pause in the conversation and i would open an ebook(this is only when i am halfway through or close to completing a book...lol, i am not that bad). This day, i was so carried away by the scene that i was oblivious to all but my novel when a loud shout in my ears jolted me out of my world.
Apparently, he has been talking to me for the past five minutes and i wasn't paying attention. I tried to apologise but he won't accept. He said something that struck me. " If after all this your reading, you cannot boast of any written work of your own then you have just been wasting your time. Let people get the benefit of that imaginative mind of yours."
I tried telling him i didn't know how to write but he won't have it. He said the only apology he would accept is me writing a short story for him. That according to him was the price of his friendship and i rose to the challenge.
I wrote a lot until i was satisfied with the result. It took me three long days of thinking and writing to produce something good. Right then i thought of steemit and joined the next day.
Steemit has helped me develop my skills in writing. My sense of imagination has increased and i am definitely more creative than i was at the beginning. Each day on this platform, i learn something new about writing. I delight in joining the many writing contests and have been privileged to win a few. I get to read a lot of stories and learn a lot from seasoned writers.
All this has happened on steemit.
I do what i love here on steemit...writing and for money too and happy about it too.
Would you like to share your story as well, join the challenge, you can read the post for day three here. Thanks for reading.
