Homesteaders Steem Around the World Challenge
View this post on Hive: Homesteaders Steem Around the World Challenge
Since the Steem blockchain became a centralized, top-down dominated place, where control and censorship thrive, I have decided to move my content. Don't worry, though, all my posts and up and doing well on the decentralized Hive blockchain. Come and check it out!
Im in! One pound hand picked and finely roasted organic coffee from me! Im in Líbano, Tolima, Colombia, 731048
May I suggest that we send a small notebook with our product, something that actually will make it around the world and include a nice message for future recipients, plus the list of past products, maybe pictures? Could this hypothetical notebook be a usb drive?
I wouldnt mind starting....
I like the idea of including an object that actually makes it around the world. Something cool looking, like a figurine or something that each of us could take a picture with. Also, having a notebook would let people write messages and be creative. A USB drive could also store photos (and whatever: music, books, etc.) So maybe a combination of all three would be best. A small notebook and a large USB (any USB is large for our purposes, hehehe.) As for the electronic data, I would say in addition to the USB it would be great to use during the game: for telling the story of the journey here in steemit, sharing the pics with all participants and those who would like to be. Fortunately, sending data around the world has become so simple nowadays.
This is coming together, but I think we'll need a few more 'pre-production' posts to get the word out and get it all organized. Maybe a, 'How would this work?' post next?
This is truly outstanding.
Exactly! I'm really feeling it: this is gonna be HUGE, so I wanna treat it like that. The next post is definitely going to recap the progress we've made so far, including the funds. So far we have 30 cents together (which may be down to 25 by the time payout rolls around), which is more than the previous week. Too bad we can't set the reward to be paid in SBD only, but that's a minor detail. I'll keep track of it in SP and SBD, add it to the next post's payout, and when we actually get to use it it may be worth more in USD. (Steem has nowhere to go but up, at this point, anyway.) As for the "how would this work" I'd say each subsequent post is going to add to the details. So far I want to use the suggestions from all comments to let the project take shape. No rush here, only regular persistence, endurance, counting each baby step. Hey, so far we have six points on the world map, probably seven if we include @ecoknowme in India. This project is doing great. It would be a big mistake to abandon it.
Ok! I totally agree with this, lets be persistant!
Also, steem currently has the best and most open homesteading community I have found, I'll keep inviting more, but I hope we can (slowly but surely) use great ideas like this to continue to develop and bring community together.
You're a natural.
This is truly exceptional.
I'd be interested Missouri, USA (65742). I was thinking I could share a trinket or treasure that I've metal detected. Such as an old coin.
That would be AWESOME! Thanks for your interest in joining.
Count my hand raised. :-) I'm in NC, USA. Upvoted and resteemed my friend!
Thank you, @greenacrehome! What kind of home-made item would you like to send to the next person in line (whoever that may be)?
My wife makes soap and I do woodworking, so something along those lines. :-)
All right! Seems like we're really coming together here.... Thanks, this should be awesome.
Love it, love it, love it! have lots of things here in India I would be happy to connect people with and I am able to send to major cities in India for people coming and going.... so much potential! Bravo @stortebeker !
All righty! I've put you on the map. Later we can refine it with postal code and the item you'd like to send. But great, so good to have you.
Not having mentioned my location and my products, it may be appropriate to write the first comment. I'm located in Mexico City (11850) and I'd be happy to send a bottle of my mead, or a jar of my spirulina pesto to the closest person willing to join. Thanks everyone!
I'm in Queensland, Australia.
I might suggest that if we don't get enough people to send parcels around the globe we could send a letter or a card, each participant could add a sentence to the story or a dollar of your local Fiat. Or some such idea. As a trial run?
Of course, we could just send a little notebook to sign, if nothing else. We'll find a way. Actually, that notebook may also be a nice addition to the products we send. Great, thanx for the idea @overthewait! If we do find enough interested people, which product of yours would you like to send? It would be so nice if we could actually round the world, including you in Australia.
Getting food in and out of Australia is a nightmare so I'm thinking I'll send a handmade steampunk item. Or some such Niknak
Sweet! Great for the person who's next in line! Oh, this is gonna be so much fun.
I am interested for sure, but I think you'll find, as @overthewait says, sending food across borders can be a nightmare
I make medicinal modified extra-virgen Olive Oil but I couldn't even send a bottle in the post inside Spain.
Well, I could with a courier and 11.50 euros, which I did, but it would be prohibitive for longer distances.
Maybe some other token thing.
I am in 23670 postcode in the south of Spain.
as my dingo mate @overthewait says*
Wow, wonderful! Great location, first one in Europe! :-)
How big was your bottle of oil you sent by courier? For me, the last shipping fee I checked was $75 USD to send a wine-bottle full of mead (1.2 kg without box) from Mexico to India. Now THAT is prohibitively expensive. But shorter distances, and smaller items we should be able to cover with steemit, especially collectively. Now the part about sending food across the borders is what could be tricky, as each country has their own specific rules.
Resteemin' for the Dreamin'
Let's do this!
Awesome, @ecoknowme! I knew you'd be interested too! :-)
At your service!
