Fractal Writing Contest#1 - winners get to keep their souls! (and a few SBDs)
Yes, a Contest! Last week, a great writer, @drwatson, had a revelation in dreams induced by the Great Old Ones: what if the sanity of viewers & readers was challenged directly? No more would they just witness the infinite madness of the Outer Gods, now they could shape it in the most personal way!
The Contest
Each post in this contest series will contain a fractal, a 2-dimensional representation of a complex mathematical formula. The participants have to post a comment with something inspired by the fractal, be it just a title, a haiku, a story, whatever.
Rules
- You have to reply with a comment in the contest post.
- The reply must be inspired by the fractal, but no explanation needed.
- Any kind of content is acceptable: just a title, a haiku, a poem, a short story, a painting, a photo, a video, a doodle, whatever. The content must be yours, no links to other people's work accepted.
- I will pick the best reply, when the post expires (1 week after posting it).
- The winner gets half the SBD made in the post, minimum 1 SBD.
- Upvotes and resteems are welcomed, but not necessary to participate.

The Elders did not speak to outsiders, not unless they had been plied with drink.
It made the extraction of information difficult, time consuming, and yes a little dangerous. After all if you were talking, you were talking on their terms, on their turf.
All it would take is one wrong word, mixed with a particularly aggressive strain of whiskey, and they would show you just how well versed they were in the "ways of old".
But if you gained their trust, did your time, brought them something nostalgic, like wine, the things they would tell you...
The major religions all like to pretend that the great conflict of our time (any given time really) is light vs dark. That is only half true. The great drama of existence is in fact between The Light, and The Sea. So they say, and I am starting to believe them.
The great Stars, they hope to consume The Sea, and all her children. I believe we call them Supernovae.
You probably think that humans are good, that we're here to protect the Light with our electricity, and our nuclear fusion, but ask yourself this:
Is it light that courses through your veins, or is it water and salt?
..wow.. it really gave me a feeling of a great paradigm shift, a revelation that changes the way you look at things! Light vs Sea is the new conflict, maybe this can be expanded upon in future posts...
thank you, gotta admit that I kinda want to play with concept further now haha, all thanks to your fractal man!
I Mardeiym Dalynn, an esteemed mathematician... What? Yes... I will admit a penchant for strong drink but also a thirst for ancient wisdom, have witnessed the outer gods at war on a cosmic scale. No it was not some fevered dream. Nor was it a hallucinogenic state in an opium den where I saw this vision. Damn you, it was right here. Knowing I would need a new type of spyglass, I began to reconfigure the convex and concave lens's needed to peer deeper into the darkness of the heavens. Toiling for hours in the University's west observatory until I could look past the multitudes of known stars and astrological oddities already seen and charted. Continuing until I could see into the vastness of history. An unimaginable distance for a mortal mind. How did I know where to point my contraption? It was the celestial beings themselves who spoke to Mardeiym Dalynn.
Well said and written, Mr Dalynn! I hope the things you witnessed did not shatter the remains of a mathematician's fragile sanity. I also expect that you took measures to prevent other unfortunate souls from using that converted lens, should anyone find it in the West Observatory.
Fig 96. The mycelium (red background) sends out tendrils to interface with the roots (blue background). This creates a symbiotic relationship between fungi and plant. The fungi trades minerals and nutrients from the soil in return for sugar.
Yeah, that's what I mean! Thanks for participating, your entry is noted. I can almost hear Sir Attenborough talking about the symbiosis of fungi and plant, just like when he described the fungi growing out of the bodies of infested insects -- just watch the video, it is awsome!
