Solutions to Major World Problems Challenge

I got the chance to read some of the other posts for this challenge and they are excellent. I mean really good. I mean you should go read them yourself here, here, here, and here. I don’t exactly want to challenge them. I just want to add my 2 cents into the mix because I love this challenge. It’s something I always wonder about when people complain about this or that problem. If you have a problem don’t just complain about it. At least come up with some type of solution. Anything.

And there are a plethora of problems to come up with solutions for in our world. There are problems with agriculture, with destruction of land and water with pesticides and chemical fertilizers and erosion and chemicals in our food, and the shipping across the world, and we could go on. I’ve dug with my hands in clean organic soils at 8 different small local farms in the US and learned the struggles of these small farmers. And they have suggestions for solutions.

There are problems with over consumption, with the filling of landfills, with the buying of throw away products, with the design of said products, with the ever excelling change of technology, with fuel for transportation or running that A/C, and with materials extracted from the earth and our forests. But I’ve collected recyclables and left over materials at salvage yards with thick leather gloves and steel toed boots. And I’ve listened to the solutions from the reuse communities here.

There are problems with our social structures, with the way our political systems operate, with our interpersonal relations, with our economic systems, with our health care, and with the way we work at jobs. And all these I have studied through my own personal interest, speaking to those wise on the matters.

And there is a solution that falls simply from the mouths of many and then tossed aside because, “No, that’s too easy.” We already have the tools and ideas to solve many if not all of these problems. But the simple and yet so difficult solution that could help bring them all to use is this … education.

Educate our youth and reeducate the rest. It’s so simple and yet so hard. But I think @mercuriel said it nicely when he brings up our, “low level of consciousness … Human beings should be encouraged to think in a global and less individualistic way.” I agree that this is a key point in solving our major world problems.
