Seeking EDITABILITY Beyond Seven Days!
This is my first post on the chainBB forum... As such, be it known that I have no idea what I'm doing! ;)
Long ago, during the run-up and discussion of Hard Fork 17, we were promised that as part of the fork we would no longer be limited to 30 days of editing our articles. That we would, in fact, have perpetual access to edit past posts.

Imagine my dismay when I discovered that not only was that promise not fulfilled, but that our ability to edit has actually been reduced to only seven days! :(
I've done just about everything I know how to do seeking a remedy for this. In response to questions, I've been told "It's a UI (User Interface) problem." I've written posts about it, pleading for a remedy:

I've even found my way to GitHub and opened an issue.
I'm still waiting...
Today, I visited the chainBB.com interface. I'm curious, and I'll ask nicely here...
Can you give me edit access to my posts via this interface?

The limit of seven days is a soft limit to protect your content. The witness plugin in 0.18.5 added a custom json op that allows you to unlock editing for a short period of time. The choice behind this design is to allow for editing while still choosing to protect content by default. Not all witnesses have upgraded to 0.18.5 right now. But when 0.19.0 is out, this functionality will be enabled across all witnesses.

There is a custom operation handled by the witness plugin that allows for editing.

As far as format is concerned, it works the same way reblog and follow custom ops do.

Unfortunately, I still do not understand. :(
I am not a witness, nor a developer at this point. What I need is to know how, as a "mere user," to access this feature for my older posts?
In other words, on new articles, there is an "Edit" button at the bottom of the article, right next to the "Reply" button. When I click on the "Edit" button, the editor opens and I can revise my article. But there is no "Edit" button at the bottom of my older articles.
And so, as a content creator with no "special powers," I need to know how to invoke that edit capability. You have spoken of a witness plugin... Is that something I can access as a user, or do I have to set up some kind of build environment?
Thank you in advance for any clarification you may be able to offer. I really need to be able to edit some of my older posts from time to time.
While the infrastructure is all there, it has not been added to steemit.com yet. We are working on several projects like now (such as Communities and the Mobile App) and our devs are working frantically to all of it done. I'll bring it up and make sure this addition is on the radar.

Will an "Edit" link be visible to the author at the bottom of all articles then, or will some other method be necessary to access this feature?
Thanks again for this news! :D .... As a reasonably prolific content creator, I have some very strong reasons to need and want this ability and I have been looking forward to it for a long time now! ;D

I have no light to shed, only agreement that it should be fixed.
🍒 I would like to be able to edit my post after 7 days as well, but probably we can't because of a security issues or because of techie stuff related to BlockChain :S
