ChainBB platform now receives just 5% of rewards?!

in #chainbb-support7 years ago

I recently noticed that chainbb has lowered its fee from 15% to just 5%.
However, I don't see a post announcing this.
@jesta, have I missed it or have you forgotten to write an update post?

Compared to some of the other steem-powered platforms and apps, the forums have now become far cheaper.
I personally like the forum structure, but I also know that many have been put off due to the high fee.

Not only has the fee been reduced to 5%, but each forum owner still receives a stepped proportion of that fee, so that they have some rewards for their moderation efforts.

This also means that communities can interact within a dedicated forum whilst receiving the same rewards as on Steemit.

Anyway, this was meant to be just a note to @jesta, but if you're reading this and haven't looked into chainbb then this is your chance!

That is a good news. I told @jesta long ago that he should lower the fees if he wants to attract more users.
BTW, do you know if busy.org charges any fees?

I did end up lowering them, and am still deciding the final fate of chainBB at this point (which is why I didn't end up posting, I didn't want new users to flock to the platform until a decision was made).

Right now with my focus being on infrastructure (wallet/explorer/apis) over frontend (chainBB), I am trying to make a hard decision as to whether to leave chainBB running or just shut it down for the time being. Even though I'm not actively developing, I still get support requests every couple days and bug reports which I feel obligated to fix, which eats into the time I have to work.

So currently I'm considering either:

  1. Leaving the site run with lower prices/beneficiaries and not putting any effort into improvement/bug fixes.
  2. Shutting down the site and refunding everyone who's ever paid for a forum (all funds ever sent are still sitting on the @chainbb account)

I'm torn between the two at the moment.

I really hope chainBB doesn't go down, it looks like a hopeful frontend for steem.

Yes, I read your most recent lengthy article about future projects and focus.
I'm not sure what to suggest; there are some features unique to chainbb that would be a shame to lose, such as the voting and curation data, and the visibility of discussions.

I don't see many bug reports recently, but they may be sent via chat. I'm also not sure exactly the form that Steemit Communities will take, but have seen that it may involve similar allocation of tags as dedicated namespaces. I would still prefer a forum structure, but if Communities will make chainbb (almost) redundant, then review it then.

Hey there @rycharde - what are Communities? Is that a new proposed feature somewhere?

Yes, it is part of the new HF20 - the next upgrade to Steemit. Details are sketchy but you can find posts by searching "steemit communities HF20" on the web.

I think Chainbb was a step ahead in this, but I'm not sure of the take-up.

This is very interesting. I recently discovered chainbb and I'm new overall to the community but from reading below; it might be shut down? I think it's a cool interface and I really wish I it was here to stay. Thanks for posting about the fee drop though. Perhaps it was not soon enough.

interesting, im going to dig it

If we are voting I vote leave it on :)

Shutting this down would ultimately suck, because I just discovered it, and I, too, prefer a forum structure. If you need some more people running it, just let me know, I'm sure I can get something worked out on one of the many servers I have across the US.

That sounds interesting - best to discuss this directly with the dev @jesta. You can also, like I did, just start a thread with a post in the chainbb-support forum. Thanks

Indeed I shall have to do that.

Great post tnx for sharing I just upvoted check out my new post upvote resteem comment @glclipse
