The plot of the film (based on the novel, if I remember correctly) was inspired by Mayerling affair and other historical events from late Habsburg era, so using Czech locations (which used to be under the Habsburg rule at the time) was one of the rare opportunity for Czech locations in modern Hollywood films to be historically accurate.

That's interesting. But still, it is strange to substitute original building with another, e.g., Prague Castle = Schönbrunn Castle.
