Police in Alabama have recently decided to stop using their current cannabis test methods after bottled CBD water exposed its flaws.

This isn't the first time that such drug field tests that are used by the police have been criticized for being inefficient. Tests have been wrong on multiple occasions and when they are they can enable widespread injustice by giving authority figures the justification to violate individual liberty.

Some people have been put behind bars after those drug field tests showed false positives, even for items like everyday vitamins.

Drug field tests have been shown to have a high error rate and current cannabis testing methods don't offer an accurate depiction for how impaired a driver might be.

Now, a southern police department in Alabama has reportedly stopped using their cannabis testing methods after bottled CBD showed it to be flawed, because the CBD water didn't have any THC in it.

Both CBD and THC are cannabinoids but CBD is a cannabis compound that is different than THC because it doesn't cause the high effect.

CBD has seen a rapid rise in popularity in the last several years, with many people reaching to try it for the first time; this cannabis compound can now be found in a wide range of items on the shelves. People are taking CBD for a number of reasons, but most importantly is that those who are taking it aren't impaired.

The officers will have to drop that test because it would've shown false positives and brought unjust harm to people in the community.

For those who have started to use CBD regularly they've also been concerned about being drug tested at work and what that could mean for them, some individuals have already faced consequences for testing positive even though they admitted to only use CBD. Not all drug tests that are used are going to test for CBD, so someone being tested at work might not have a problem, but as this incident with the police in Alabama shows, it's still possible to have a false positive when conducting a cannabis test with the current field test methods.
