Welcoming a Queen I

As a breeder, researching and selecting the best breeding specimen is essential for success. Acquiring a cat with a proven breeding record is preferred over one that has preferential features yet not breeding history. Breeding can take many months to prepare for and even longer to actually go through the breeding process and raising of a litter. For this reason, much research and investment in understanding breeds and probability are essential. After selecting an appropriate queen for breeding it is entirely normal for cat owners to query a breeder. The safety interest of a cat is of priority and registration with a vet will help instil confidence. It should be noted that despite a breeder choosing a cat, this does not always entitle them to a breeding opportunity. The owner of the cat will often be very critical and determine the Queen’s general behaviour to a breeder to make sure that no stress or conflict will be likely in the process.

After a successful arrangement, it’s time to welcome the new kitten and help it settle in. This is only the beginning of the breeding process as the cat will not have matured just yet for the breeding process.
