Understanding Cats at Heights I

It is no secret that many cats are accustomed to taking a preference to ascending heights. Being in a high place may seem like a curious pastime for a cat but it can be observed with great consistency when it becomes comfortable in a household. When a cat cannot be found in its usual ground based resting spots, it is not uncommon to find it at a more elevated level. Shelves, windows ledges or any other surface at a height may serve as its resting place.

Understanding this behaviour is useful for owners and can hopefully establish some ground rules to ensure no mishaps lead to accidental injury. It is worth noting that not all cats will be motivated to ascend and rest at greater heights and some breeds or temperaments will have this need more than others.
