Sharing food

Something I hear a lot from people are how they feed their cats food from the table, sharing their dinner leftovers, or even full on feeding their cats with the same food they eat themselves. Whilst that is very endearing, it's important to know that not all foods are good for your cat in terms of their dietary requirements. They may eat it, but it doesn't mean they should!

Remember, like with our own diets, your cat's need to be nutritionally complete, so even if you plan on feeding your cat something from your own plate, be sure that they are getting the nutrients they need first before giving them an extra treat!

As we've already established, cat's are natural meat eaters, so much so that they require meat in their diets to survive. Even though wild cats will eat their meat's raw, it is still best to cook your meats before feeding them to your cat, whether it's chicken, beef or even fish. This will lower the risk of them becoming ill.

Believe it or not, cat's are also able to eat whole grain foods like corn and polenta. They will even eat things like rice, berries, millet and couscous. They tend to favour the smaller ones but they will eat them if cooked.

Fish are a staple diet in every nutritionally complete cat diet. Omega-3 fatty acids help with keeping your cat's eyes in tip top shape, but also help with curbing arthritis, kidney disease and other heart disorders. Make sure you serve them cooked fish, sushi is definitely out of the question!
