Once a queen has entered a state of pregnancy, it will undergo a number of physical and behavioural changes that will be noticeable by the breeder. It is at this point of the breeding process that a new care regime should be implemented to provide care for the pregnant cat. Though extra measures and supplements are to be introduced, attention is focused on guiding the cat to maintain a routine lifestyle. Pregnant cats will require gradual supplementation in both nutrition and physical attention. Identifying a state of pregnancy as early as possible is crucial so as to gauge when to provide the additional supplementation. Nutrition is key part in pregnancy and it is expected that after the fifth week of pregnancy, food servings will begin to increase. The focus on providing extra nutrition that provides additional vitamin supplementation is essential and will help the queen stay healthy along with her developing kittens.

Pregnant cats will need to consume copious amounts of food to support their pregnancy. Many pregnant queens who are not supported with regular meals will feel the need to eat excessively as they do not know when the next opportunity to eat will be. When a queen is hungry it will approach the breeder and communicate its hunger.
