Proper use of the Down vote [FLAG] feature

I wanted to create a discussion about the proper use of voting and impact of SP, self voting and the rewards pool.

Thanks to : @isacoin @chitty @mikepm74 @cryptonik @cryptick , for those thoughtful comments that engage in the discussion.

I decided to make a general reply as a new post because most of the comments point towards creating means to avoid and stop this kind of practices.

Also wanted to reduce nesting for visibility.

Something i learnt today, is that In fact the means exists and it is just up to us to use them in a wise a ethical way.

In Steem, the blockchain where almost everything you see on steemit.com happens, it is a negatively weighted vote. You could also call it a a downvote.

The original design and scope for negatively weighted votes, which many people who have a stake in the platform understand, is that they would be used to adjust the rewards on posts for any reason including an opinion.

I'm sorry you've been misled, as the conceptual misuse of "flag" remaining on steemit.com mostly thanks to (@sneak) has caused much confusion. I've argued many times to correct it to "downvote," as have others: https://github.com/steemit/condenser/pull/1270 But it's been blocked, only causing to further create confusion and discord among Steemians.

So the main question becomes:

Should we use our limited VP to organize a down vote party to recover the 88 X $ 1,6 SBD those comments are retiring from the rewards pool ?

And another question comes to mind:

Should the down vote have an impact in the author reputation (the answer is obvious in this case) but I think the impact should be maybe transferred to the up-voter reputation.
