Reviewing the Mercedes-Benz E-Class ~ Smarter Car Reviews
The Mercedes E-Class range of cars come in a wide number of trims and options – cabriolet, coupe, saloon and estate, and the AMG range for the estate and saloon. It has an outstanding name in the executive saloon segment for cars and with its badge comes prestige and luxury.
The basic SE trim level already comes with faux-leather seats, DAB radio, sat nav and climate control, electric heated seats and 17 inch alloy rims. The AMG trims add a more styling options including an extra inch to the wheels, a nice sports steering wheel and sports suspension too.
There is also a digital widescreen cockpit display and dashboard, and a new nine-speed 9G-Tronic gearbox as well as all the expected safety systems like electronic stability control, attention assistance and of course the full set of airbags leaving no doubt that the E-class has obtained 5 stars from NCAP.
The Drive
There’s no doubt that the drive in the E-Class will be smooth and comfortable, but we’ll go through the paces anyway. The latest model of the E Class also makes the menu function scrolling much simpler so you don’t have to worry about navigating through different options while on the move.
The fact that you can customise the car to your individual settings is a dream and anybody can get the right amount of steering and throttle responses as well the suspension settings , that they want. It does get a little loud on the road, especially on uneven roads, but the sports mode helps to lessen the effects in the cabin.
The AMG models will get firmer suspensions systems, but in general, the car gives the driver excellent cabin vision. Coupled with the ultrasonic sensors for a top down view on your screen and the cruise control ability, your car practically drives itself. It is a bit big, so it will take some skill to park the car, but again, Mercedes has generously included Active Parking Assist which will pretty much get you in line to your parking lot on its own too.
The Interior
The E-Class definitely presents a luxurious interior too, and the front row seats get adaptive seats that you can position wherever and however you like in addition to massage, heating and ventilation functions. Moving the front seats compromise the back seat passengers though who might feel a little cramped if they’re on the tall side.
We particularly liked the dashboard and widescreen that’s located there. It really made the E-Class feel up to date and modern and expensive too. Picture is clear and sharp and offers a wide range of connectivity for the savvy new age driver.
You’ll also get a pretty decent sized boot at 540 litres with a fair amount of pockets and nets for storage within the cabin. The rear seats only come if you pay for the extra feature though, but we doubt that you’ll be driving an E-Class to haul big items anyway.
Overall
There are plenty of options with the E-Class and you’ll definitely get the luxury and class that you pay for when you choose a Mercedes-Benz engineered performance car. It’s safe and quiet to boot so definitely something that drivers with a family should consider.
