Bentley Meteor

in #cars7 years ago

Meteor is the creation from Bob Peterson engineering. Brutus is not the only vehicle powered by an aircraft engine. This magnificent Bentley was fitted with the spitfire engine, British single seater fighter aircraft from world war II.

Bentley Meteor was built on original Rolls-Royce Phantom chassis with the coachwork designed and hand build to give the feel of a pre-war Bentley.

Engine was taken from a Spitfire fighter - Rolls Royce 27-liter V12 that makes 850 HP. Since the engine is not what you would call economical - it does only 3 miles per gallon (around 80 liters per 100 km), it was fitted with 400 l tank. Even if consumption is still better that Brutus, you would still need to have a deep pocket to run it as a daily driver.

Even if the car looks vintage, it is still equipped with power steering and disc brakes. It is capable of achieving 260 km/h, but no one was crazy enough to try it.

The V12 engine takes 57 liters of oil which needs to circulate before the ignition, 16 liters of oil is needed for the four speed Allison automatic transmission and to cool everything down it requires 64 liters of coolant. It is fitted with 12 exhausts and 24 spark plugs.

Upvoted and RESTEEMED :)

Because of the spitfire, right :) Did you watch the episode of Top Gear, where Clarkson was comparing it to Brutus? Clarkson re-enacting his own version of the Battle of Britain

I think Magnificent Beast is the right name for this Car. I havent seen any car more badass than this one. It actually sounded like an airplane when it swished by in the video. Why am i not surprised Jay Leno has one :) Resteemed
