Mclaren 720S......Draws first blood!

in #cars7 years ago

We live in a world that is constantly pushing the limits of possibility, the line separating imagination and reality continues to get blurred as technology advances in leaps and bounds. One company that continues to advance this cause is Mclaren, a company with great success in formular one and famed for producing the F1 and P1 now has another offering for the street.

The 720S, with its fighter jet inspired looks, double skin dihedral doors, and heart stopping performance, it's sure to give other supercars a run for their money. The Mclaren 720S comes baring teeth with a 4.0 litre twin turbo V8 producing 710bhp, 568lb-ft of torque and capable of launching the vehicle from 0-62mph in 2.9 seconds, all this performance in a vehicle that weighs 18kg less than the 650S , has double its overall aerodynamic efficiency with gains in down force and cooling efficiency of 50% and 15% respectively. It's sensational like the 675LT yet refined like the 570S, if you say Mclaren has out done itself, you'd be right.

Mclaren has literally upgraded just about every feature in the 720S over its current models, for instance its 7speed dual shift gearbox posts shift times that are 45% faster than the 675LT, it's also got an improved chassis structure, something the folks at Mclaren call the monocage II. A revised multi adjustable proactive chassis control with 12 more sensors than the previous offering helps to improve handling and vehicular stability. It can also alter valves in the dampers in a manner that pre-empts changes in the road surface rather than react to it. This makes the 720S a mean machine indeed, but my favorite feature in this vehicle is the Variable drift control, that allows the driver to set just how much permissible sliding is allowed before the computer kicks in. This control can be varied incrementally so the driver can get better at controlling the vehicle in the slides or just to make him look good in drift mode, now you get a car that teaches you to drive.....thank you Mclaren.

Aside from the impressive performance figures, the vehicles aestethics are amazing, u get green house lighting and a full 360 degree view of your surroundings because the roof structure has more glass in it than a chandelier, something we perceived as a challenge in rear mid engined cars. The engine bay is even illuminated so it can be seen through the vehicles rear skin which makes me wonder if this is just an engineering master piece or a work of art. Inside the cockpit you get an instrument cluster that tucks itself away when prompted so you can focus on your driving, a 1280 watt audio system and a beautiful interior with ergonomic controls, shame is that heated electric seats and sports exhausts are options that will cost you more.

Overall I'd say Mclaren has produced something we all will come to love, and the numbers show it too, as all 400 launch spec cars have been sold and 1400 cars were ordered even before the first car left the factory........so I'd like to see what other stables have to offer.images (6).jpeg
