In 2004, I was living/ working(out of my suitcase) at a Super 8 hotel, that was right behind a Denny's restaurant..(YUMMY!!)
The reason for my being there, I was installing an overhead fire protection system, at a new grocery store.. I believe it was a Publix, across the road from a Burger King.
There were 4 of us on the job(including my stepdad), and I was the greenhorn(rookie).. So I was the one, that had to go get this, go get that. But, that was fine because that was part of my job.
While I was down there, I went to my first drag strip race at, Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter, FL
The cars in this post are probably not the same cars that I saw(some 14 years ago), but they are similar.
Nor, they are probably not from the P.B.I.R.(sorry I don't have photos from back then).
I'm just posting what kind of different cars they were, including some like these.
Nova Jet Funny Car.. Might want to turn the volume down a little.. This has a high pitch sound.. Unfortunately for me, at the P.B.I.R., I did not have any ear plugs or muffs.. I thought, that I was big and bad.. LOL.. I think I'm paying for it now because, probably from the loud music over the years and this.. I have constant ringing in my ears(Tinnitus)..But, I am to blame for that.. Haha(not really funny)...
What was funny is that, after we(me and my stepdad) got back to the hotel, I ordered(from Denny's), 2 orders of a double cheeseburger combo meal, just for me.. Ha, he asked me" you gonna eat all of that" and I said" you dang right". The meal included the basic--burger, fries and a drink.. Well, I ate it all.. My stepdad couldn't believe it.. I was like a human garbage disposal.. LOL..
About a week goes by and instead of coming home(back to Alabama), we decided to stay another weekend. So it's Friday or Saturday night, and I notice there are some girls hanging out around the hotel. I mean, I have seen a few there with there boyfriends or husbands. Nothing out of the ordinary. But this night, I am seeing several(like around 10 - 15 girls), just walking around the premises.. So I mention it to my stepdad and he just laughs at me.. He tells me, those are Prostitutes out there.. I was like WHAT!!!. I have seen stuff like this in movies or tv shows, but not in real life.. I have to tell ya, I was in shock!! So I made sure not to answer the door, if one of them were to knock on it..:-(
We evacuated a day or 2 early, before landfall, and I have never seen roads as busy as they were.. I left my car there at the hotel, hoping that when I returned, it would still be there in one piece..
A day or 2 after arriving home, we could start to feel the impact of the storm, all the way in Central Alabama. The winds were crazy.. Looked like it was about to blow some strong looking trees over. But they never gave, and still to this day, they are still standing..
As for my car when I returned,, it was still there in one piece..
The job there was put on hold, due to the storm.. So we packed our belongings and headed back home to await, where our next job would be..
I am sorry, for the loss of loved ones..

And I see this in your post, I am very interested in the world of racing cars and often watch it on television.
