1971 Mazda Cosmo Sport Series II
In September in London, RM Sotheby's will offer this beautiful 1971 Mazda Cosmo Sport Series II for an estimate price of £70,000.
When you think classic car, German with Mercedes, British with Aston Martin and Italian with Ferrari, Bugatti... cars dominate. But this Japanese car is quite a stunner...
History of the Mazda Cosmo
The Mazda Cosmo was presented at the 1964 Tokyo Motor Show as a sports car concept. The production began in 1967 through 1972 with only 1,176 examples (343 for Series 1 and 833 for Series II). The 110 hp rotary engine was designed by German engineer Felix Wankel and proved itself in an 84-hour marathon exhibition at the Nürburgring.
The Mazda Cosmo Series II was introduced in 1968 with a more powerful engine (128 hp) and a longer wheelbase (38 cm) for a more stable handling.
Technical specification
With its 982 cc Twin-Rotor Wankel engine, the Cosmo Series II produces 128 hp at 7,000 rpm mated with a five-speed manual transmission.
This 1971 Cosmo Sport Series II is finished in white over a black interior. Beautiful Japanese sport car... A discovery for me.
