1963 Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider (Sold)
In January, during the Scottsdale Auction, Bonhams sold this red well-maintained 1963 Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider for $125,000.
History of the Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider
Alfa Romeo produced between 1961 and 1968 the 2600 (Tipo 106) with its inline 6-cylinder engine. The 2600 was presented at the 1962 Geneva Motor Show in three models :
- a factory built sedan,
- the Spider designed by Carrozzeria Touring, Italian automobile coachbuilder,
- the Coupe with a convertible designed by Bertone.
For Cars Illustrated magazine :
"One of the smoothest, quietest running sixes, irrespective of the speed at which it is running, in our experience."
The Spider was produced in only 2,255 examples from 1962 to 1965.
Technical Specification
The big improvement was the engine, 2,584cc DOHC inline 6-Cylinder, instead of the usual 2 litre of the Alfa Romeo 2000. This engine with its 3 Webber carburetors produced 145 hp for a top speed of 200 kmh.
